Reducing Carbon Naturally
Carbon Futures is a company dedicated to fight climate change caused by excess atmospheric Carbon Dioxide. This is being achieved by hemp farmers planting broadacre hemp.
Hemp has a unique quality to fight climate change due to the fact that it absorbs more CO2 than any other terrestrial crop. It is fast growing and matures in 90-120 days. In some parts of Australia it is possible to grow multiple crops per year.
Once sequestered, carbon is stored in products made from hemp. Products range from building materials to textiles and replacements for plastics.
Companies that purchase Carbon Futures offsets can be assured that the offsets are from sustainable agriculture, are verifiable, and traceable.it

A Three Step Process
01. Cultivation
Farmers choose which type of seed will deliver the best result for the intended end-use.
Depending on soil type, and rainfall. crops can be grown with or without irrigation.
Fibre crops are grown using predominately male plants that are densely planted.
02. Harvesting
Crops mature in 90-120 days depending on season and seed variety.
Crops are mowed using a dedicated mower or an attachment to existing machinery.
In many areas there are “hubs” developing where harvesting machinery is available to be used on multiple properties.
03. Processing
Once the crop has been mowed it can be left in the field so that the outer fibre can undergo “retting” prior to separation of fibre and hurd (decortication).
Alternatively, there are machines that can decorticate without retting (TCI D8 above). This makes the process faster and frees up the land for the next crop.
